Dragons

*You forgot Bjartskular in the ancient language!*

Bjartskular woke up slowly. He'd fallen through the trees by producing fire too early. He was even too small to ride. His mind was so confused, he couldn't contact his Mistress.

Meanwhile, Mistress was huddled up on her own crying. She occaisionally let out a yell for her dragon but in vain. "Bjartskular! Bjartskular! Anyone, help! Bjartskular!" Her cries were desperate, but her voice was hoarse. She was sure that if she could find the rider who'd extinguiged the fire, she'd be able to ask for help. She got up and started to run in a random direction, calling for her lost charge.

*Sorry, I'm doing the whole help thing, but I'm a bit stuck on ideas.*

*im fed up of this, i make really long posts and then it doesn't save them, or logs me out, this is the second time i've made this post, this'll probably be shorter coz i cba spendin 20 mins doin it again*

reptan collected his arrows and put them back in his quiver, he clipped his bow to his back. a young man ran up to him "hello, are you an elf?" the man asked, seemingly exited. "yes" reptan replied, curious to what he wanted. "well i heard from someone that elves were better fighters than humans, so i asked around and people just snorted at me, so i wanted to see what they meant. could y-" "you want a swordfight?" reptan finished for him, he nodded.

they walked over to the hand-to-hand area of the training grounds, at the edge of the clearing, he thought he heard something coming from the forest but dismissed it. they took out their swords and reptan made and invisible blunt layer around both of them, the mans sword plain steel, his elf-made and a beautiful green with jewels in the hilt. they stood apart from each other and bowed before the fight. the man swung first, hoping to catch reptan off-guard, he parried the blow with ease one-handed but didn't come back with an attack, he wanted to see how good the man was. the man lunged this time, and again, reptan used the blade one handedly to parry the blow and side-stepped the man sending him flying forwards, and again he didn't use the time to attack. the man seemed to be in controll now and swung a precise arc at reptans stomach. using the blade in one hand, he raised it at an angle so the mans sword flew upwards. he flicked his blade upwards when the mans blade neared his hand leaving the man hopelessly exposed and defenceless, reptan quickly brought his blade to the mans throat, lightly touching. "ho-, wha-" the man asked in disbelief. reptan replied "don't worry it isn't you, im both an elf and a rider, that gives me a big advantage". "rider?" the man said shortly, reptan nodded then pointed over to viper, who seeing she had been noticed, breathed a long flame into the air, turning most heads. the man bowed and before reptan could bow back the man ran from the training ground, taking one long look at viper before disappearing. what a strange person came vipers message, he liked you reptan thought back and viper instantly looked more smug.

he heard another sound, a distress call, from the forest. he ran in at full speed to find the person, it was the girl he had seen before with her dragon. heading towards him, he ran over to her.

*that wasn't as bad as i thought, 10 mins*

Veloce flew towards the forest then scaned the area for any sign of the elf.She saw him runnig through the forest.He seemed busy,running like that.Where are you going?she asked.Ammy swooped down closer to the ground and flew by his side."I never even got to say thankyou properly!"she shouted to him from the loud beats of Ammy's wings.

Shay flew higher, enjoying the feeling of the wind on her face. Fafnir took her into his eyes, and she saw brighter reds. Green was nonexistent, the forest below was gray.
This was the bit about being a Rider Shay loved the most. The flying, the being one with a dragon. Shay saw some of the other recruits below, one on dragonback. She recognised them vaguely from some of her classes. The one on the dragon was Veloce. Nearby was Reptan. She made Fafnir fly lower towards Veloce and her dragon, Ammy.

Seeing the rider that had tamed the flames, Mistress stopped dead. "Please help me! I can't feel my precious Bjartskular's presence!" She was covered in sweat and she was on the verge of panic. She couldn't even scry her dragon because she knew little of the ancient language.

"you're veloce arnt you? and was it ammy for short, i remember you from training, well your welcome" he called up with a smile, then cast out his mind across the forest for the lost dragon. he found something, ahead to the right, he set off in that direction and he found the dragon solitary. "we've found your rider, this way" he geastured the way he had come, then set off in that direction. "found him" he said to the rider " should be arriving soon."

"Oh, thank you so much! He's not normally any trouble. If there's anyway I can repay you, I'll do it." She gasped as Bjartskular ambled out of the trees. Mistress threw her arms around his neck. "I've been so worried!"

Fafnir hovered above the Riders, feeling Shays unsureness. She hadn't had much contact with the other students like herself. She held back. But Fafnir was insistent.
Hey there, young Riders and dragons. He called cheerfully.

Ammy landed next to the rider and Veloce got off with the aid of her spear.She raised an eyebrow and had a puzzled expression on her face," You've seen me yet I don't remember seeing you before.......Whats your name?"she asked the elven rider.

Mistress looked up some surprise. "I've never seen so many dragons with riders in one place... Hello up there!" She added. Bjartskular, having overcome his dizziness,said, Good day, and who might you be?

"I am Shayenn, name of Shay. I've seen you around." Shay told Veloce. Fafnir was a bit bigger than Bjartskular. He grinned.
My name is Fafnir and I am one of the greatest of dragons. He replied to Bjartskular.

"Nor have I...."Veloce agreed with Mistress. She looked up, squinting from underneath her hood.Hello fellow rider!she thoguht to the rider above.

*Bjartskular is just a baby...*

How can you claim as much? We are humble creatures, we must be, for we are the last. He said to Fafnir. Mistress heard him and gaped at Bjartskular, wondering how he found that dragons were rare. She'd never told him...

Humble, I agree, but mighty beyond compare! Fafnir roared in glee.
Fellow rider, my name is Shay. I have seen you around. Shay told Veloce softly.

But how can you claim title as greatest? You do have a fair point though. Bjartskular said.

Veloce lifted down her hood and looked at Shay.Yet I have never seen you around.....Veloce said.How come there were so many that claimed they knew her, yet she didn't maybe. Maybe it had something to do with her not being in her home land for a long time.

Mistress caught very faint traces of thought on the air and tried to block out their conversation to no avail. "Please can you block your minds a bit, I'm getting every thought here, it's a bit much." She knew that her only rider skill so far had been powerful tricks with the mind, but it was effortless to her, whereas it took years for some riders to learn the craft. But that still didn't explain why she couldn't block out people's thoughts. "I can't ignore your thoughts even if I try. They just keep coming!" This time she actually put her hands on her ears.

Veloce nodded,shut her eyes and but a barrier aroudn it, stopping anybody else prying into her thoughts.

"Thankyou."

reptan always kept a block anyway, viper soared in through the trees. viper was quite big, at least as big as the other dragons there, her dark green scales glittering but nearly blending in with the forest. reptan walked over to viper and climbed on her back. another fly? viper asked him personally yes he replied back and they soared off into the sky before racing away, he wanted to travel far today.

reptan and viper continued for a significant distance, she touched down next to a river, a waterfall nearby, truly beautiful. "spectacular" he said quietly yes agreed viper, it was a stunning veiw, the last time he'd been here was 10 years ago and it was still as awe inspiring as it was 10 years ago. he heard a noise behing him, drawing a shuriken he whipped around and saw an urgal with a bow an arrow already loosed in his direction. "thrysta vindr" he muttered and the arrow stopped and harmlessly fell to the floor, at the same time he threw the shuriken up at the urgal, hitting it in the forehead and killing it instantly. he noticed movement all around him, an ambush. turned to face the dead urgal and reptan turned and stood on the other side, viper let out a jet of flame and reptan used magic to fend off the urgals and keep the arrows away. they slowly rotated showing no weak spots. one urgal broke through and ran straight for reptan, he took out his knife from his belt and thrust it into the urgals throat. at the same time he used magic to pick up a load of pebbles and rocks from the river and sent a hail of stones at the ranks of urgals, viper using fire, a deadly combination. using the time reptan jumped on vipers back and summoned his shuriken to his hand. viper flew up letting out more fire to stop the urgals regrouping, reptan using magic to block the odd arrow. as they were flying away from the bloodbath a stray arrow embedded itself in his right shoulder, he pulled it out with great pain and forced out, "waise heill!". the wound sealed up but it still hurt a bit. that was close a thought from viper, yes, but i thought we handled it well a shared bond of relief and slight humour, it wasn't long before they arrived back at the training fields

Mistress looked round the other riders left. "I wonder if I may be so bold to ask guidance from a more experienced rider for lack of wisdom in the ancient language. A tuition prehaps?" Bjartskular, being the smallest dragon, showed that Mistress' experience was limited. "As it happens, I only know one word in the ancient language, Bjartskular, Brightscales. I need asistance in the rest. Would anyone here care to help a naiive young rider?" *Mistress is only 12.*

*is she an elf or human rider?*

viper landed back where the other riders had met, he jumped off viper and landed gracefully on his feet. "urgal ambush, must have been about 80, they've reached the forest, i scanned one of their minds, the main attack in five days, many in an organised attack. there might be scouts and others coming sooner though" he said. his hand was still resting near his sword from the attack, he hadn't needed it because he wanted to get out quickly and unharmed, but he'd need it soon.

Veloce nodded,"By the way,"she began to Reptan,"What is your name, and how exactly to you know me?"she asked.

"my names reptan, and viper" he said geasturing to viper "i don't actually know i just feel as though i've met you before". he pondered it for a few moments, when he couldn't remember he walked over to viper we have to warn everyone he thought to her yes she replied and he climbed on her back "just be on your guard" he said to the other riders before taking off and flying to the community meeting spot to find the govener of the area

*by the way like where is this all set, welvenvarden?, a random forest?, a foret in the beor mountains, i just wanted to know if it was like, well, what is it?*
