A demon cannot be hurt (Chronicles of Ancient Darkness)

Kodo surveryed his surroundings. He was a grown man and was very well-built. His six-packs and biceps showed through his shirt. He looked to his family. Laki, his once-childhood friend had married him. He now had three beautiful children. Charis, aged ten was the eldest. Elpis, aged seven was next and then there was Cato. They trampsed through the forest happily. Kodo then saw familiar face and was overjoyed. Lassie. He ran to her.

Lacesso heard someone trampling the leaves behind her. She turned, and flew into the persons arms.
Kodo! Kodo, wow!She thought to him, as he was deaf. She hadn't seen him for a long time, since before she had mated.

Lassie, how are you?? he thought back to her. You remember Laki, don't you?

Lacesso nodded, and bit her lip. Kodo had once been tormented by Califex, and his master, Falkner.
"Ma, who's this big man?" A squeaky voice asked. Lacesso smiled warmly.
Kodo, this is my son, Perin. He's also...Califexes son. Califex is my mate. Lacesso explained.

Nrix could sense something was wrong. There was something watching them. The newcomers had taken everyone's attention. No one relised they were in danger. Nrix didn't know how she knew. She just did. She could also sense someone reading her thoughts. Good. They can warn the others. She hated being the bringer of bad news. Yet she knew the demons followed her. She should have never have come here. They were after her, not them, although they never said no to a little tormenting...

Kodo was a little surprised. He didn't want to relive the memories that he had again.
O...that's...nice he thought. Lassie, I'd like you to meet your nieces and nephew. Charis, Elpis and Cato.

Hi Kodo," Otonashi smiled, happy to see another relative.

Shin grabbed Oto's legs and tugged at him. Oto looked down at him in worry.
"What is it?" he asked, picking Shin up in his arms. But Shin didn't want to be picked up, he wriggled and jumped out, clinging to his Fa's legs, tugging at them.

"S-shin...what's with you?" he said. He looked alarmed now by Shin's strange behaviour. He was a shy boy, but not this shy.

Shin cried, hiding his face. He scrunched up his eyes and refused to look. There was a bad thing somewhere. Shin could see it.
It looked like a human, but it didn't feel like a human. He could feel it pulling at his souls, and they were replying.

Nrix prided herself on her sense. Now she sensed the demon closing in on it's target. The group of people. "Run! Before it's too late. I'll buy you tim- Arrgh!" She fell out the tree. A unexplainable pain had clamped around her heart. "Run." She whispered.

Otonashi unshed his bow at an alarming speed. His eyes darted around. What was happening?

He suddenly felt as if all his hope had drained out of him, and everything was blurred. He shook his head and moved the bow around, not knowing where to aim.

Shin howled as he watched the thing glide towards them. There eyes locked together, and it grinned menicingly at him. He screamed and turned to run.

Shin saw the dark girl lying under the tree. She looked half dead. Shin didn't know what to do. He watched Oto blindly shoot at something, but it wasn't the bad thing - that was on the other side of him.
"Shiro..." it whispered to the pretrified boy. "Come to me and awaken."

Lacesso nodded at her nephew and nieces. She saw Laki behind them, Rika had told her about them. Perin looked at his cousins shyly.
As Oto and the mysterious dark-skinned girl both talked, there was an overwhelming dark presence. The girl had fallen from the tree.
"Perin, go with your uncle!" Lacesso ordered quickly, pulling out her bow. She knelt by the girl, and chanted a spell. As the demon was halted, she scooped the girl up and ran.

The demon rose above Shin like a cloud of darkness. He was too scared to scream. As he gazed into the deep red eyes of the creature, he thought he saw fire.

"Shiro," it smiled evilly, licking it's lips with a snake-like tongue. "Yo-"

The demon froze, but it's face continued to move. It pulled a grotesque scowl and hissed at Lacesso. Then he looked down at Shin again.
"Not today then," it chuckled.

Nrix's mind was clouded. She knew she was being picked up but she didn't know by who. She was limp and tears poured down her face. "Pain. Demon... after me... get boy... safety...dying."

Oto came to his senses, but he still couldn't see the demon. He saw Shin sitting up shaking as he stared into nothingness.
"Shin!"

Shin could hear his name. He watched as Oto ran towards him, and straight through the demon. Shin's eyes widened in horror as he was picked up. Oto asked him questions but he just kept staring past him like he was blind.

Kodo and Laki had made sure that their children were behind them. They drew their daggers.
"Lassie, Oto! Come quick! Bring the girl," shouted Laki.

Voices. Nrix could hear voices. "Pain... get boy... safety... demon after me... shiny stone... bury me... earth... stone... die... fire... opal..."

"Shin, talk to me. SHIN!"

The boy couldn't move. Either by the effects of Lassie's spell, or from shear terror.
Otonashi looked at the little girl as she struggled to speak. He glared at her.

"What the hell are you..."

"Oto, just grab Shin, I can do a counter curse when we're ssafe!" Lacesso yelled. She scooped Nrix up, and dragged her from the area.

*Call her 'stalker'. You don't know her name yet*

Oto cluched Shin and flitted. He wanted to get as far away as possible, he didn't care if he'd just met his cousins after many, many summers. Something was wrong with Shin, and he wanted him saved.

"Katsu," he called in his head. "Katsu I need you."

"Boy... key me... fireopal..."

Katsu was in the deep forest. He'd been living there for a few summers now, after meeting a girl from the forest horse clan. Now, they had a daughter called Miu.
It was when he was with Miu that he heard Otonashi's thoughts.

"Oto...what's up you sound distressed?" he asked seriously. "Did something happen?"
Oto appeared in front of him with a stiff Shin in his arms. Both looked terrified.
"There was something and then Shin was affected by it somehow...I really don't know what's wrong...but there was this really dark girl there."
Katsu took Shin and carried him to his shelter. "Come on Miu."
Some of the people in the forest horse clan glared at Oto as he followed his brother through their home.
